Willow Talks To RNZ About Mandatory Reporting

Dame Karen Poutasi’s report following the murder of five-year-old Malachi Subecz by his caregiver recommended mandatory reporting as well as compulsory training. Since its inception, Safeguarding Children have been advocating for compulsory training.

Our CEO, Willow discusses the fact that people trained by Safeguarding Children don’t have any doubts about when to report suspected abuse. She also highlights how some organisations make it a priority to have their employees trained however, there is a majority that will only instigate training once a significant child abuse event has occurred.
