Safeguarding and Child Protection for Sport

This training is specifically designed for those working in, and volunteering for sports clubs and organisations. You will gain an understanding of what you can do to prevent and minimise the risk of harm to tamariki and rangatahi who participate in sport. You will gain confidence in the actions you need to take when you are worried about a tamaiti or rangatahi. This knowledge is essential for everyone who works, or volunteers for a sports club or organisation. This course will give you a deeper understanding of appropriate responses to child protection concerns by working through scenarios likely to arise in your sporting code. Everyone from coaches, managers, officials, and club administrative staff to parents or caregivers need to ensure they are working in a safe and appropriate way with tamariki and understand their responsibilities to respond to concerns for child safety in the sports setting.

  • Gain awareness of the indicators of child abuse and neglect​.
  • Understand how to respond to a disclosure or concern for a child or young person on your team or in your club​.

Anyone who works directly or indirectly with our children or young children in either a professional or volunteer capacity within the sporting sector. Such as managers, coaches, trainers, instructors, officials, or parents.
