This course supports parents and caregivers to feel more confident in guiding their children and young people to stay safe, well and connected in the digital world.

You’ll learn how to navigate the opportunities and challenges of parenting in the online environment. It will help you build knowledge, start conversations and put protective strategies in place to reduce risk and promote digital wellbeing.

You don’t need to be tech-savvy to benefit from this course, just curious, open to learning and wanting to protect and empower the young people in your life.

  • Common digital risks such as cyberbullying, grooming, privacy breaches and harmful content.
  • Protective strategies you can use to support your child’s safety and wellbeing online.
  • How to talk with children and young people about their online lives in ways that build trust and openness.
  • Where to go for further help, tools and information.

Who is this course for?

Parents, caregivers, whānau and family members, and anyone supporting children and young people in the home or community. This course is especially useful for:

  • Parents of children or young people using devices or social media
  • Caregivers supporting children with unsupervised online access
  • Grandparents and extended whānau and family wanting to understand digital risks
  • Youth workers, mentors, and others in caregiving or supportive roles
