Child Protection for Local Government Children’s Workers

This course is for Local Government Children’s Workers. There are two types of children’s worker – “core” or “non-core”. A core worker may be someone who is the only person present with children or young people, or a person who has primary authority, or responsibility, for children and young people including.

Through this course you will learn what you can do to help create a child safe organisation and gain the knowledge and skills to identify, respond and report child abuse and neglect. Play your part in making a difference for our children and young people.

What will I learn?

  • Understand why protecting children and young people from abuse and neglect is important.
  • Be able to recognise signs of potential abuse and neglect.
  • How to report your concerns, and to whom, and how to document them.
  • To be confident to follow the ‘Four R’s’ approach: recognise, respond, report and record.

Who is this course for?

  • Customer service representative
  • Gardener
  • Community centre advocate
  • Lifeguards and swim coach

COURSE ACCESS: 30 days
DURATION: 2.5-3.5 hours (depending on your role)
COMPLETION RULES: All units must be completed. Leads to a certificate with a duration of 2 years.

Group training and content warning: It is not recommended to complete this eLearning in a group environment as some course content may be triggering for individuals who may have experienced childhood trauma. We recommend wearing headphones. To ensure your wellbeing, trigger warnings are given throughout our course with support guidance provided.
