This course is for Local Government Children’s Workers. There are two types of children’s worker – “core” or “non-core”. A core worker may be someone who is the only person present with children or young people, or a person who has primary authority, or responsibility, for children and young people including.
Through this course you will learn what you can do to help create a child safe organisation and gain the knowledge and skills to identify, respond and report child abuse and neglect. Play your part in making a difference for our children and young people.
What will I learn?
- Understand why protecting children and young people from abuse and neglect is important.
- Be able to recognise signs of potential abuse and neglect.
- How to report your concerns, and to whom, and how to document them.
- To be confident to follow the ‘Four R’s’ approach: recognise, respond, report and record.
Who is this course for?

- Gardener
- Community centre advocate
- Lifeguards and swim coach
COURSE ACCESS: 30 days
DURATION: 2.5-3.5 hours (depending on your role)
COMPLETION RULES: All units must be completed. Leads to a certificate with a duration of 2 years.
